JACK KEROUAC ON THE ROAD ADAPTATION ON ITS WAY TO CANNES?
A new adaptation for the famous book “On the road” by Jack Kerouac is coming out this year and a great ensemble of talents are involved: Francis Ford Coppola is producing and Garrett Hedlund (Dean Moriarty), Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Alice Braga, Steve Buscemi, Terrence Howard and Sam Riley are portraying all the charchters.
Well of course I wouldn’t count Kristen Stewart in the great ensemble cuz unfortunately she’s just sad as actress so far and she’s still not convincing even though she worked in a string of good indie movies, but I dont wanna judge her in adavance of seeing how she worked in this movie in particular so I’ll just give her a chance. I just don’t understand very well why in such a long awaited adaptation they would just throw name like Stewart, her recent curriculum is not very well fitting this adaptation (considering how plenty is of girls coming from the indie cyrcle). But anyways probably they needed someone super famous for the campaign. Even though the star power of her is well proved to not work much outiside of the vampire saga. Her capability to carry a movie will be later tested this year in Snow White and Huntsman which found me really really interested because I have a huge crush on both Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. At least is interesting the fact Kristen iss trying to give herlself a indie career and I think she was probably super motivated to work in a production like this one, reason why she probably wanted give her best. I hope so Kristen or I ll kill you. (fyi Kristen worked alongside with Dakota Fanning in The Runaways, kind of well reviewed (but poorly received) indie movie on a riot band. She also was in Sean Penn’s Into the wild, not very noticeable role anyway, but with high exposure in adv. Adventureland one of her last indie work found critical praise but again for the movie overall not for her role in particular).
For Garrett Hedlund this is a big role, I can’t say much bout this actor but is in one of my favorite movies : Four Brothers. He was recently seen in Tron and Country Strong (I didnt see it but I heard his performance was good in it.).
Director Salles was in the 2003 The Guardian List for best 40 directors, he made also The motorcycle Diary and lot of brazilian movie and probably is best known to big public for the horror Dark Water (which I don’t comment).
On the Road will probably first seen in Cannes film Fest but I hope instead to first see it at the Venice Film fest which is much better AH!
“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise (Sam Riley, playing Kerouac’s alter-ego), an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund, playing the fictionalized Neal Cassady), a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.” (source : filmofilia.com/on-the-road-trailer-93506/)
